Hiking is one of the note-worthy activities when one’s up for exercising or just wants to have a good time. Any day is perfect for hiking during warm and sunny seasons. Fort Erie has a lot of great outdoor adventures but if you want to try new things especially hiking, consider these trails for the fun you want to experience.
Friendship Trail
This 30km multi-use path that offers a lot of options for enthusiasts of all sorts. It starts in Port Colborne Seaway Park and ends at the historic Old Fort Erie. Much of the trail is relatively levelled and easy to take even for bikers since most of it is located upon an abandoned rail line. The trail is used by walkers, hikers, cyclists, and even rollerbladers in the summer.
Point Albino Conservation Area
This shoreline offers diverse features; from naturally eroding sand beaches, dry forest of red oak, red maple, white pine and others, wetlands, and swamps. “Canada’s forests are spaces of significant biodiversity and irreplaceable beauty. They play vital roles within nature and our communities including producing oxygen, regulating and cooling our climate, and cleaning our air and water,” said John Lounds, president and CEO with the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Shagbark Nature Park
Shagbark Nature Trail is a great touring spot for individuals and groups of any ages since it is level, well-maintained, and well-marked. It is a short easy walk, stretches only for over 2.9km and only takes 33mins to complete. It also has many shades and is actually good to stroll even on sunny days. It is a friendly path for dogs and has a lot of nature and birds to enjoy!
